Wednesday, June 27th
Dresden to Beyreuth

On the bus for the morning trip from Dresden to Beyreuth

The first friend we encountered in Beyreuth was tall, handsome...and green!

Lunch in Beyreuth...
another charming restaurant
and the menu featured—
DUMPLINGS!

...which were rated B and M's signature four thumbs up.

beyreuth dessert

Fabulous dessert—yum!

Outside the Wagner Opera House—designed to the exacting specifications of composer Richard Wagner,
where only his operas are performed for a short time each summer.
Tickets to performances are really worth waiting for—ten years!
Too bad we didn't have quite that much time...

Wagner's home "Wahnfried Haus"
so named, according to the motto engraved on the front of his house, because
"Here where my delusions have found peace, let this place be named Wahnfried."

Striking a pose

Then we're back on the bus, travelling from Beyreuth to Bamberg

Accommodations in Bamberg were unavailable
because of a giant "Farmer's Festival"—
so our hotels were in the very charming nearby town of Forchheim

Thursday, June 28th
Bamberg

A walking tour of historic Bamberg in the morning

Bamberg's imperial cathedral (1004-1237)

An informal concert inside the cathedral

Lunch was a boat cruise on the canalized River Regnitz

Beautiful views

A great lunch of wurst and potato salad, followed by ice cream!

Happy girls...

Happy chaps!

Good friends.

Beautiful sights.

(Dating from the Middle Ages, these small, half-timbered houses,
standing side-by-side with their balconies and tiny front gardens,
line the shores of Regnitz.)

After the cruise, we had a little time to shop in Bamberg,
then off to rehearsal for the evening concert.
The venue was a former power plant, now a high school.

First we rehearsed alone
(as the rain came down in torrents outside.)

Rehearsing Hansel and Gretel.
(A's Hansel costume of hat, suspenders, and shorts
was a big hit during the performance.)

Then a little time to be quiet and rest.

Then we rehearsed with the Bamberg choir,
a high school choir for girls aged 14 to 16.

Dinner outside, when all the girls chatted together.

It was wonderful to get to know the friendly girls from the Bamberg choir.

PG performs.

"Away from the Roll of the Sea" was beautifully performed
by the two choirs together.

Another incredible concert performance!
